How to care for snake plant

  • Light: Tolerates a wide range of light conditions, from low to bright indirect light. Prefers medium to bright indirect light for optimal growth.
  • Water: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of problems.
  • Soil: Requires well-draining soil, ideally a cactus or succulent mix. Avoid heavy potting mixes that retain too much moisture.
  • Temperature: Prefers average indoor temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
  • Humidity: Tolerates low humidity and does not require additional moisture. It is well-suited to dry indoor environments.
  • Fertilizer: Fertilize once during the spring and once in summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer. Avoid over-fertilizing.
  • Propagation: Can be propagated by leaf cuttings placed in water or soil, or by dividing rhizomes. Ensure leaf cuttings are allowed to callus before planting.
