Does my monstera need direct sunlight?

The short answer

A monstera grows best in bright, indirect light. Gentle morning sun can be suitable after gradual acclimation, but strong afternoon sun through glass may scorch its leaves.

Why this happens

Low light usually means slower growth, longer gaps between leaves, and fewer leaf splits. Window direction matters, but buildings, trees, curtains, and distance from the window also change the light reaching the plant.

What to do

  1. Start near a bright window with filtered light.
  2. Move closer gradually over one to two weeks.
  3. Watch for bleached patches or crisp brown areas.
  4. Rotate the pot occasionally for balanced growth.

Keep in mind

Do not move a shade-grown plant straight into intense sun. Damaged leaf tissue will not turn green again.
