Quick care
- Light: Bright, indirect light is best. It handles low light, but variegated types lose color there.
- Water: Water when the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of soil is dry, usually every 1–2 weeks. Leaves droop slightly when it's thirsty.
- Soil: Any well-draining potting mix in a pot with drainage holes.
- Humidity: Average household humidity is fine.
- Feeding: Balanced liquid fertilizer monthly in spring and summer.
Is pothos safe for pets?
Not pet-safe. Toxic to cats, dogs and people if chewed. It contains calcium oxalate crystals. See our guide to toxic plants for cats and dogs.
Common problems and fixes
- Yellow leaves: Usually overwatering. Let the soil dry further between waterings.
- Long, bare vines: Not enough light. Move it closer to a window and trim leggy stems.
- Brown, crispy edges: Underwatering or very dry air. Water more consistently.
